Its size and weight makes the hoop easy to use for new comers, challenging the body's core muscles creating a fun, super fast mind-body result for all those that hoop. Suitable for both men, women and children, my classes are for 16+ yrs to 100!
Powerhooping's full circle training is designed to flatten the stomach, firm up the abs and strengthen the back. Users soon see results in their waist circumference and core strength. With regular use contributing to weight loss/calorie burn, reduced lower back pain and improved co-ordination.
My classes run for 45 mins and include more than just hip twirling. The weighted hoop works all the bodies muscles, including resistance training, cardio aerobics, dance and pilates based excercises.
Excercise should be fun and social, come and join in, make new friends and you will see the results very quickly and of course laugh a lot! If you are interested in coming to join in the powerhooping party, check out the timetable, book a place and turn up. Booking is essential to ensure you reserve a hoop, or you can buy one from me and reserve a space. First class always FREE so you can come and see what we do. Join in as much as you can.
After your inital session, classes are £4 a session with a £1 hoop hire if you don't have your own. You can also purchase hoops from me either second hand or new. Start at any time.
The exercises that are performed have been designed to ensure the deep postural muscles are targeted, which give support to the skeletal system and act as the powerhouse of the body. Six principles are used; concentration, control, centring, flow, breath and precision.
All exercises emphasis is on quality and not quantity. The Pilates method designed by Joseph Pilates in the 1930s is now used by anyone who wishes to create a strong core through precision exercise and rehabilitation following injury.
The classical Pilates moves designed have now been modified to enable beginners to advance to follow the programme. We run 4 weeks at a time for £20 that are bookable, but if you wish to come less frequently, classes are £7.50 each. Contact me for the start dates. You are welcome to join at any time.
I teach this specialty to music, a great motivator. My classes are enjoyed by a wide age group and levelled at all abilities, as each exercise always has a modification.
I teach this in "member only" gyms, come and give this a go and see just how hard it is to move and coordinate, kick your legs through the water and still stay smiling!
Look after the muscles you need to support in life. It was while I was a midwife that I realized how important it was for women to look after their pelvic floor muscles. Too many were not exercising them and I’m shocked to say, some did not know where their pelvic floor was!
Now this may not be an easy subject to talk about and I wish the NHS would educate more about it, but we really need the sling of muscles supporting our pelvic organs to work well and to be strong.
They help to prevent injury and stress incontinence - a condition that is becoming far more common these days and not just among the elderly. Those little leaks when you cough or move suddenly- well exercising the pelvic floor muscles can help restore some control.
It is important to keep these muscles working in conjunction with abdominal and back muscles to create strong inner support- what we call in Pilates - the Powerhouse. Having taught antenatal and postnatal classes for years, I decided to make it my mission to educate people about how to look after their pelvic floor.
Becoming a fitness instructor was a natural progression for me. I also believed getting fit should be both fun and effective and done correctly, great results can be achieved for men and women.
All classes I teach require all muscles to work together but specific techniques to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles are taught in Pilates and Powerhooping. Neither can be done without first finding those muscles, then exercising and strengthening them.
I recently started Powerhooping classes – a fitness craze that started in Scandinavia. You may well remember hula hooping in the school playground when you were young, Powerhoping is a twist on that, using a weighted hoop in a series of exercises designed to whittle the waist and strengthen the core.
Classes are fun, with no experience required, you will have a laugh and make new friends and you’ll certainly flatten your tummy. You might just get into fitness for life. I hope so.
But , most importantly you’ll learn about and use the muscles that you need to support you in life. All of it.
