Strength Defence®
10-Week Personal Safety Programme
Strength Defence® is a structured 10-week personal safety programme designed to help participants recognise potentially unsafe situations, protect their personal space, make good decisions and move towards safety.
The programme is progressive but not rigid.
Personal safety cannot be learnt by practising a technique once and then moving on.
Core skills are repeated throughout the programme, with different situations and challenges gradually introduced as confidence and ability develop.
Every session reinforces the fundamentals of awareness, positioning, movement, communication, creating space and moving to safety.
The aim is not to teach people how to fight.
It is to give them practical options to help them stay safe.

the strength defence®
10 week programme
Strength Defence is built around repetition and progression.
Core skills such as awareness, movement, positioning, communication and creating space are revisited throughout, while new situations are gradually introduced.
WEEK 1 - FOUNDATIONS & WRIST GRABS
Personal space, awareness, movement, protective positioning, communication and escaping a wrist grab.
Week 2 – Pushing & Creating Space
Revisiting wrist grabs, dealing with pushes, maintaining balance and learning different ways to create distance.
Week 3 – Grabs, Pulling & Clothing
Responding to arm and clothing grabs, pulling and attempts to restrict movement.
Week 4 – Breaking Control
Regaining balance and position, breaking another person's control and finding another option when the first response doesn't work.
Week 5 – Protecting Yourself
Using movement, positioning, blocks and covering to protect against physical attacks and create opportunities to move away.
Week 6 – Creating an Opportunity
Introducing simple physical responses when necessary to create space and get away safely.
Week 7 – Combining Responses
Combining grabs, pushes, movement and protective responses as situations change.
Week 8 – Different Situations & Environments
Applying the same skills from different positions, directions and environments, including restricted spaces and contact from behind.
Week 9 – Scenario Application
Using realistic scenarios to develop independent decision-making and the ability to adapt when circumstances change.
Week 10 – Strength Defence Challenge
Bringing everything together through controlled scenarios to demonstrate awareness, confidence, decision-making and the ability to create space and move to safety.
The skills don't simply change each week — they are repeated, developed and tested in increasingly varied situations throughout the programme.
Fun, engaging clubs that build confidence, fitness and self-defence skills.
